Ohio State community says #thanksArchie
Archie Griffin stepped down as alumni association president and CEO at the end of June. To recognize the occasion, the Buckeye community shared its appreciation by sharing their thoughts through the #thanksArchie social media campaign. This was just one way the community expressed its gratitude.

Detroit club boasts strong track record
Jim Vanderbrink stands out as one of Grace Sheng’s first Buckeye connections. They met at the Alumni Club of Detroit’s spring banquet, where she was awarded a scholarship that helped cement her decision to attend Ohio State.

Alumni connection benefits Ohio State students
Tom Wheeler made a promise to Ohio State students when he came to campus to deliver his first policy speech as FCC chair. “The door is open at the FCC,” he said. Eddie Pauline, director of the Office of Student Life’s Buckeye Leadership Fellows program, knocked right away.

Support Pelotonia through the Team Buckeye virtual rider challenge
Back by popular demand! Your Ohio State University Alumni Association club or society is invited to join Team Buckeye in Pelotonia ’15 by creating a unique club or society peloton to participate in this year’s event.

Save the date: Club and Society leadership symposium
Sept. 24-Sept. 25, 2015
Please mark your calendars for the 2015 Club and Society Leadership Symposium. We have a lot of information to share with you, so this year the conference will be one-and-a-half days, beginning Thursday afternoon, Sept. 24. There will be no cost to attend and no limit to the number of officers or board members you wish to register.  We are currently working on a block of hotel rooms and will send information in the save the date email to presidents next week.

Report your summer send-offs
Alumni clubs around the country will be celebrating the start of new school year by holding Summer Send-Off events for incoming Ohio State freshmen in their area. If your group is planning an event, please send details to Nadine Holmes as soon as possible. Details include: Type of event (cookout, picnic, lunch, etc.); Time, date and place; RSVP information (club RSVP contact and RSVP deadline).

Social media tip: Use social media to promote summer send-offs
Summer send-offs are a great way to connect incoming students with alumni. Use social media to keep multiple generations of Buckeyes connected to your club or society.

-Create a Facebook event for your Summer Sendoff. Facebook events are a great way to both promote an event and introduce attendees to one another. Learn more about creating a Facebook event.
-On Twitter? Use it to promote your Summer Sendoff by rallying around the #new2OSU hashtag. This tag is used for incoming students, and is a great way to connect with new Ohio State Buckeyes. Learn more about using hashtags on Twitter, or check out Ohio State’s list of hashtags.
-Encourage Summer Sendoff attendees to keep in touch with your club or society on social media. This could include friending one another on Facebook, or encouraging both students and alumni to follow your organization on Facebook or Twitter.

For questions or more information on all things social media, contact the Alumni Association’s Michelle Morgan.

Share your group’s good work
Remember to share your club and society accomplishments and points of pride for consideration in Ohio State Alumni magazine. A new submission form makes the process simple and quick. The deadline is Friday, July 17, to have items considered for the September-October Buckeye Buzz page.

Share your volunteer opportunities
Have a great volunteer opportunity you’d like to share with fellow alumni and friends? Ohio State’s Office of Volunteer Relations can help through VolunteerMatch. Learn how to use this valuable tool with our step-by-step training guide and checklist.
